Letcher County Sheriff Shawn "Mickey" Stines is accused of shooting District Judge Kevin Mullins multiple times inside his chambers in September 2024, killing him at the scene.
The shooting came after Stines and Mullins had lunch together earlier that day.
Investigators also examined allegations that Mullins had a connection with Stines' teenage daughter, after her number appeared in phone records.
However, later testimony indicated Stines himself made the calls, while his wife and daughter denied any prior contact between the judge and daughter.
Stines' lawyers claim he was experiencing paranoia or psychosis and are pursuing an insanity defence.
He remains jailed without bond and faces a first-degree murder charge. No trial date has been set.
