Vital foods Nutrition has provided that will help boost your immune system to fight against coronavirus. | Lilian Felix

What coronavirus does to the body is that it first attacks the immune system, weakens it and then invades the body. To eliminate this we have to eat healthy foods that will help boost our immune system so as to help fight against this virus.
Some essential micronutrients that will help boost your immune system are the Vitamins and Minerals. The vitamins include vitamins A, B, C, D, and E.
The Minerals include Iron, selenium, and zinc.
These micronutrients are gotten from the foods we consume such as:
🌻. Vitamin A is found in oily fish, egg yolks, nuts, whole grains, cheese, seeds, and legumes.
Vitamin A helps to produce antibodies that neutralize the pathogens that cause infection and maintains the structure of the cells in the skin, respiratory tract, and gut. Which is your body's first line of defense?
🌻. B vitamins such as B6, B9, and B12 particularly contribute to your body's first response once it recognizes pathogens.
B6 is found in cereals, legumes, green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish, chicken, and meat.
B9 is gotten from green leafy vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
B12 is found in animal products including eggs, meat and dairy and also in fortified soy milk.
🌻. Vitamin C and E
Vitamin C and E help protect the cells from oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress leads to the production of free radicals which can pierce cell walls, causing the contents to leak into tissues and cause inflammation.
Vitamin C also helps clean up the cellular mess by producing specialized cells to mount up an immune response in the body.
Vitamin C is gotten from oranges, lemon, limes, berries, tomatoes, etc..
Good sources of vitamin E include nuts, green leafy vegetables, and vegetable oils.
🌻. Vitamin D: food sources of vitamin D include eggs, fish, milk, and some fortified margarine brand.
Vitamin D help destroy pathogen that causes infection in the immune system.
🌻. Iron regulates enzyme reactions essential for immune cells to recognize and target pathogens.
Iron is found in meat, chicken, and fish. Vegetarian sources include legumes, whole grains, and iron-fortified breakfast cereals.
🌻. Zinc helps maintain the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes.
Zinc is found in oysters and other seafood, meat, chicken, dried beans and nuts.
Generally, we should focus on eating a variety of foods within each of the basic food groups to boost the intake of vitamins and minerals.
People with health conditions, those who are on a restrictive diet may need specific supplements. Talk to your doctor, Accredited practicing dietician or pharmacist.
Beyond diet, there are other measures you can practice such as social distancing, avoid smoking to improve your lung's ability to fight infection, exercise properly and wash your hands regularly.
