The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted activist and social media commentator Justice Chidiebere, popularly known as "Justice Crack", bail in the sum of A5 million over alleged cybercrime charges.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that the bail must be backed by one surety in the same amount. The surety must live within the court's jurisdiction, have a fixed address for at least four years, provide proof of residence, and also be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 15 with evidence of salary and pensionable employment.
The court also ordered that the surety must deposit an international passport with the court.
During the trial, a DSS operative, Uruntu Douglas, told the court that Justice Crack was investigated after allegedly posting videos and materials on social media without confirming their authenticity with military authorities.
According to the witness, investigators extracted videos, chats, and conversations from the defendant's phone, including alleged discussions with soldiers and protest-related conversations.
The prosecution tendered the DSS investigation report, an iPhone allegedly recovered from the defendant, a flash drive containing videos posted online, and other forensic materials to the court.
However, the defence objected to the admissibility of the flash drive, arguing that its contents were neither properly described nor played before the court.
The matter has now been adjourned till May 25 for continuation of the trial, while the first prosecution witness is yet to be discharged.
