Northeast Ohio Hits By Earthquake




MENTOR, Ohio - An earthquake struck parts of northeast Ohio on Tuesday morning.

The US Geological Survey confirmed the 2.7 magnitude earthquake about 20 minutes after the tremor was first reported. The quake originated in Timberlake and was felt in surrounding communities such as Mentor, Eastlake, and Willowick.

According to the survey, the quake was felt across much of Lake County. Dozens of reports of the quake rolled in just 20 minutes after it was first felt, according to the survey's reporting website.

The largest earthquake in Ohio history is believed to have reached a magnitude of 5.4, Ohio History Central said. This quake hit the western part of the state in 1937. Since records began, Ohio has experienced more than 200 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.0 or greater.
