Holidays are periods when students take break from school activities, it can be mid-term breaks or long vacation. Most holidays may last up to three or four weeks before school resumption,no doubt at times such as this kids are in for just plays.
Holidays are periods when students take break from school activities, it can be mid-term breaks or long vacation. Most holidays may last up to three or four weeks before school resumption,no doubt at times such as this kids are in for just plays.
However, you can actually engage your children and wards in meaningful and impactful activities during the holidays, you can help your children to get involved in activities that will improve them instead of allowing them to play away the holiday.
We shall look at some activities you can engage your children with during the break to maximize the holiday. Below are some activities for your children during the holiday;
1. Summer lessons;

It creates an avenue for specific lessons to improve a child's academic performance in some areas of study, for example in spelling or calculation, etc. It’s also important to note that the holiday lesson classes shouldn’t take too long as the normal school hours, so your children can have opportunities to do other things.
2. Computer/IT skills;
The world is turning to a digital world and almost everything is done via the computer. Children can learn some computer packages like typing, drawing, PowerPoint, etc. They can also be taught how to surf the internet under supervision and monitoring. It’s highly advised that parents put parental control over their children’s smartphones to avoid going to negative sites. You can also register them for online classes.
3. Talent/ skills discovery programs;
There are several programs on talent discoveries, this enables them to discover what they like doing. As a parent it is also important you pay attention to what your wards love or their talents. Enroll them in programs that will help them improve their talent. Skills are also important for them to learn, you can train your kids on various skills, both vocational and nonvocational. You can enroll them in a music school, baking class, etc.
4. Educational/ inspirational movies;
You can introduce your children to TV programs or movies that have academically relevant, children learn more easily from what they see. You can introduce cartoons or even video games that will improve them academically and morally.
5. House chores;
The holiday is a great time to teach your kids how to run some menial house chores. This will give them a sense of responsibility and fulfillment. You can teach them how to do the dishes, how to set the table for dinner etc.
6. Charity;
You can take them to charity homes. You can allow them to do volunteer work for charity. Teach them how to help those in need and let them see you doing it.
7. Sports;
we all know how children love playing; engaging them in a sporting activity will help them play and have fun. Sports will help enhance their social life, it also helps their minds to be active and sharp. Sporting also makes your children develop strong bones and immunity against diseases. Some sports you can introduce to them are football, volleyball, cycling, etc.
8. Competitions;
Children naturally love competitions; you can organize one or register your children for one. Quiz, sports, debate, and various competitions can make your kids have a wonderful holiday.
9. Agriculture/ farming;
You can prepare a garden and allow your kids to plant, tend or harvest from it, what joy it brings to them. You can teach them how to plant and harvest as the case may be. You can also introduce them to animal or crop agriculture. You can buy some fingerlings of fish or day-old chicks and let them rear them. This will surely keep them busy and out of trouble during the holidays.
10. Holiday trips;
The holiday is a great time to send your children on trips. They will surely have a great time. Holidays can be organized by a small or large group, holidays trips can afford your children the opportunity to learn a whole lot. Most holiday trips are spiced up with various skills training, sports, lectures, etc.
Make holidays power-packed and splendid experiences for your kids. Lots of activities to engage in for the improvement of our kids bless their holiday season with fun-filled activities building them academically and morally too.
