Stay woke, scammers are on the loose all over Social Media.
Let me share this experience with you so you don’t fall victim.
I have had this pending transaction with Zenith bank for a while and this afternoon I made a post on Twitter tagging their official handle and requesting to know why my complaint hasn’t been resolved.
Few minutes later, I get a Twitter DM from a Zenith bank account apologizing for the inconveniences and promising to help resolve the issue. Immediately I knew it was a fake account for the following reasons.
1. I have already done some communications with the authentic Zenith bank Twitter account via DM so when I didn’t see any previous messages I knew it was a fake account.
2. The official Zenith bank account on Twitter is verified. The one that chatted me up wasn’t .
However, I decided to play along as I would normally do.
They requested for my account number so they could fix the issue and I obliged them. Few minutes later, I received an SMS on my phone with a ‘One time password’ (OTP).
As expected, I got a message immediately from the scammer requesting I send them the password that was just sent to my phone for “authorization”.
I laughed. I sent them a password.
At that point, he must have thought he has hit a goldmine lol. I sent him an incorrect password, he replied telling me to confirm that I sent the right password.
I asked if he expected me to send an OTP to a fake Twitter account and I adviced him to go get a job.
As i expected, Oga blocked me immediately.
Why are my sharing this with you? I want you to be careful. No Bank will ever ask you for your PIN, password, token codes, card details or internet banking login details. Do not give out any of these details to anyone, not even when Emefiele calls you directly. 🌝
Stay safe! Mundus cares.
