Water has become the second most popular drink (behind soft drinks). But water lovers got a jolt recently when we heard that a new report had found that the benefits of drinking water may have been oversold. Apparently, the old suggestion to drink eight glasses a day was nothing more than a guideline, not based on scientific evidence.



But don't put your water bottle or glass down just yet. There are plenty of reasons to drink water. In fact, drinking water (either plain or in the form of other fluids or foods) is essential to your health.

Why?

When dehydrated, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorders and wrinkling, water helps the skin.


Drinking water instead of soda can help with weight loss.


All known habitats need fresh water to function properly. It is important in part because water is an efficient solvent, melts easily and absorbs nutrients to high temperatures. Its cells also play a role in making sure the proteins are functioning properly.



Your body uses water in all its tissues, organs, and tissues to help regulate the temperature and maintain other body functions. Because your body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it is important to re-digest it by drinking water and eating foods that contain water
