3 Steps To Handle Snake Bites

ALWAYS find a means to take a snake bite victim to the hospital immediately!

Don't add more injure or administer self medication.

Furthermore...

#1: Always Protect the person from further harm or bite.

Identify the snake if you can. (Color, size, shape, behaviour)

Good if you can kill the snake but don’t risk further bites.

Take photos if you can.

All these details will be important in what antivenom treatment to use on the patient.

Never waste valuable time trying to kill the snake.

#2: Try to stay Calm.

Anxiety and tension usually increase the heartbeat rate which increase blood flow and makes the venom spread faster and wider.

About 70% of snake bites are harmless, and even among the 30% harmful ones, more than half of the time, their bites are harmless if managed at first.

#3: Try your possible best to Immobilizer the person and reduce movement — especially of the bitten site or limb.

Be still and calm as much as possible.

Use bandage with wood or any neat and  hard material to immobilize the limb (same style administer for a fractured or broken bone)

7 Do’s and Don’s:

  1. Wash the bite site with soap &  clean water.

  1. Do not tie or use anything that will prevent blood flow all in an attempt to prevent venom spread.

It does more harm than good you don't know

  1. Don’t cut, or suck the wound.

Gently squeeze some blood out if     there’s a wound.

Never cut yourself.

Don’t suck.

  1. Never try to eat or drink anything not even alcohol.

  1. Don’t apply ice-block or packs.

  1. Don’t give the person any drug or pain medicine.

  1. Don’t administer traditional medication of any kind.

There is no substantial, reliable evidence or proof of the efficacy in snake bites.

RUSH the person to the hospital immediately!
