Most times people are qualified for a particular Job and have proven themselves worthy through their resume and Curriculum vitae
Other times, they seek the services of people to review and write it for them, this is why every employer would want to Interview their Applicants to see if they are as valuable as they claim to be on paper.
Also there are a lot of things that the CV does not show, like the appearance, the tonality of one's words, the accent, the attitude, the composure and eloquence. All these qualities and many more cannot be assessed through paper.
Most Companies and Firms prefer to hold their Interview online especially during this pandemic, to cut cost and if the position is something that does not require a physical presence, Jobs like a social media manager, virtual assistant, graphic designer, etc
Here are some common interview questions you are most likely to be asked at any interview:
1. Tell me about yourself.
Here you have to prepare an elevator pitch, Selling yourself not more than two minutes, saying your name, what you do, who you do it for and what makes you better than others who do the same thing you do (competitive advantage)
2. What are your strengths?
You are to answer using your competitive advantage, in order words your hiring manager is asking you "Why should we hire you?" What makes you better than everyone else in this interview.
You can answer saying "I've had an experience working as a manager in an oil firm and I also have attended trainings about the oil and gas sector organised by Shell so I have more knowledge about it than every average Applicant"
3. What is your greatest weakness?
Now a weakness can be a strength, everyone has weaknesses but you have to say it in a way that it projects Strength, I'll give an instance;
" I like to work with teams, I don't like to work independently because I believe I can achieve more when I work with a team"
"I find it hard to work under pressure because of my personality, pressure makes me lose Attention to details and get me overwhelmed that I forget to be creative about solving issues at hand"
4. Why have you been unemployed for such a long time? Or Why did you leave your last job? Or Why do you want to leave your current job?
"I believe in growth as an individual, I believe that every stage has it's use and purpose
I think the time has come for me to gain more in the purpose of my life and this work fits the exact role that is the push I need to become more productive".
5. How long will you expect to work with us if hired?
Now this is a tricky Question, the hiring manager wants to know how dedicated you are to work with them.
You are to answer in a way that shows you are dedicated to work with the organization highlighting the features that would keep you working with them.
6.Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
This question is a tricky one that most people tend to flop, people just talk about themselves leaving the company out of their future.
For instance, Mary says "In Five years time, I see myself working at a big firm as their Manager, I'll be on a scholarship attaining my Masters and would employ other employees"
As beautiful as that dream is, the company is not in it instead Mary can go like this
"In five years time, I must have worked with this company as an Assistant Human resource manager, expecting a promotion to become the Human resource manager of another branch of this company because I have been recruiting the right personnels who brought value into the company, I see myself winning the Employee of the year award at least twice....."
It should go in that direction, let the company see their growth in your growth.
