The Cathedral Church Of The Transfiguration Of Our Lord (CATOL), Owerri is the host and the head of Anglican Communion Diocese of Owerri.
The Cathedral foundation was lead by THE MOST REVD BENJAMIN C. NWANKITI 2nd Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Owerri at the year 1979 which the then Archbishop of Canterbury.

Archbishop, Metropolitan & Primate Of all Nigerian With other Bishops in Nigeria Anglican Communion Dedicated the cathedral CATOL Completed by His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Cyril C. Okoroach, Ph.D. Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Owerri.
Bishop Okoroach express in happiness walk in the midst of Congregations waving hand and huge smile as the service went on because that which seem to be a task has been completed.
In semeron Archbishop Nicholas urge congregation not to boost of there donation towards the building or of any kind, He also admonish never think of giving to Man but is a giving channeled to God Almighty.
Also to the Clergy he urge them to hid to the voice of there bishops and his opinion that the Bishop is the only voice in the Diocese and his instructions should be carried out excellently every time .
In his summary he let the congregation to know that the Building is not the Church rather the Human body is the Temple of Godwhere he dwell and the Church building is the house of evangelism to those in the body of Christ.
