Domestic violence on women and Divorce

BY Chizor Onyirioha.

violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. "police, social services, and voluntary agencies are working together to tackle domestic violence"

The way Nigerians condemn divorce and separation is really alarming. I obviously ain't saying it is good neither am I encouraging it as a matter of fact, I wish to see many beautiful homes around me. However, the issue of domestic violence shouldn't be neglected or ignored. In a country like Nigeria where the female gender suffers more from Abusive husbands and boyfriends Nothing would make a better advice than saying ' sister don't you think you should run for safety somewhere else??'

No woman should have to endure a violent man just to 'remain married' and not be an object of caricature. I bet most women haven't really taken the time to ask the ultimate question of WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF THEIR KIDS ONCE THEY DIE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. if they do, they will see reasons to speak out and seek for help.
Being a woman entails standing up fr yourself especially if being maltreated in your own home.
I sure will leave a violent home (I don't pray for it) but I sure hope other women who go through domestic violence would equally leave such homes and be free and alive.
I unlearned that my full happiness comes from staying 'happily' married even when I pass through the worst beatings. I hope other young women unlearn that too.
